A little about our experienced and passionate presenter

Our main presenter, Julie Armstrong is an experienced and highly regarded teacher and community educator.

She was awarded the 2023 National Environmental Educator of the Year by the Australian Association for Environmental Education for her work in schools and early childhood settings about the importance of pollinators for food security, biodiversity and healthy ecosystems. The award also acknowledged Julie’s role in instigating significant public policy changes in the ACT.

Julie was an ACT finalist for the Australian of the Year 2024 Local Hero Awards for her long-standing commitment to education and community engagement in creating pollinator-friendly environments in the Canberra region over a decade. Julie is the founder and President of ACT for Bees & Other Pollinators.

Our attendance at events, presentations and workshops

We would love to visit your group, business or event, however, ACT for Bees is a small, not-for-profit organisation that, like all entities, incurs running costs, so we need to cover these if we attend events, deliver workshops or speak at some group meetings or functions.

Cost Guide 

• Generally, we do not charge a fee for speaking engagements or presentations (PowerPoint) to your group or organisation. However it is expected that you supply projection equipment and provide set up support where requested.
• A fee will be charged for travel time and other costs incurred when we are invited to attend events or functions outside the ACT (with the exception of Queanbeyan).
• For workshops, we will charge a fee of $150 per hour where you charge an attendance fee; are funded to hold the activity (eg grant); and/or where ACT for Bees is responsible for preparing and delivering the workshop. There is a minimum fee of 2 hours ($300). Any other charges will be negotiated according to the activity's specific requirements. 
• For educational institutions, fees will generally be charged out at $150 per hour. This subject is to negotiation and whether or not other expenses will be incurred.
