Learn how to Create a Bee Friendly Garden

May 23, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$25

As part of ACT for Bees’ campaign to make the ‘ACT Bee Friendly’ we are holding a workshop at the Canberra Environment Centre on ‘Creating a Bee Friendly Garden’. https://www.canberraenvironment.org/workshops/2017/5/23/creating-a-bee-friendly-backyard

We need our bees! Bees pollinate around 2/3rds of Australia’s food and yet their numbers are declining rapidly worldwide due to pesticides, diseases, mono-cropping, flowerless landscapes and decreases in their gene pool. There is a lot we can do in our own backyards and communities to help native and honey bees thrive and support the variety of interconnected plant and animal life in our gardens.

Come and hear from ACT for Bees’ Julie Armstrong who will show you simple steps towards a bee-friendly backyard and how to increase and support your local bee populations. You’ll learn about what plants to grow and HOW to grow them, how to propagate plants and how to help them flourish. Julie will share some information about some of the most pressing threats to bee populations, bee habits and how bees contribute to Australian agriculture (including urban agriculture in your backyard!)
