Food in the Capital is the first of its kind sustainable food event for Canberra and the surrounding region.
This three day program running over the next 12 months will feature over 95 speakers from around the globe. They will discuss the latest innovations in rural and urban farming, together with practical solutions to food production, transport and sales. The event will initiate the building of a unique city region agrifood initiative.
The complex interactions in the food supply chain means policy makers need to think at a system-wide level to plan effectively. There are major business opportunities to be garnered, both in the city and in the surrounding regions, provided ‘last mile’ transport and logistics issues are solved. People demand to know where their food comes from and they want less negative environment and more positive social impact. The massive increase in investment flows in ‘Urban Agtech’ and innovative urban and sustainable farm production tell their own story.
The message is clear: prepare now for more climate change, pandemic and other threats to our food supply chain.
